This grave site has been fixed up since from its original state. It is surrounded by a fence and although seems to be a little overgrown must still be maintained at some times. The gravestones read Samuel Jacob Van De Grift 1841-1917/18 and Walter Scott van De Grift 1875-1910.
Look for Eagle Creek Road along the Chumstick Highway between Leavenworth and Chumstick. Turn onto Eagle Creek Road. At the beginning of Eagle Creek Road is a large wooden sign that reads Eagle Creek Ranch 5 1/2 miles. Drive to the end of Eagle Creek Road. At the end of the road, about 5 1/2 miles, you'll see a sign saying "End of County Road". The road forks. One half going left the other continuing straight. Go straight onto the dirt road. Continue down this dirt road for a few miles. You'll pass a fork in the road with one half leading down another dirt road that is overrun with overgrowth. Stay on the main road. Look for a white post saying "24". The gravesite is in a fenced in area not to long after the wooden post on the left hand side of the road. The gravesite is easily seen from the dirt road. There is a area to turn your vehicle around near the gravesite. This gravesite can be reached by car but 4-wheel drive is recommended.
