Big Bug

This large bug was found one evening just walking across some pavement near the area of Wenatchee Valley College where they are building the new parking lot. The bug measured around two and a half inches not including the antennas. At first it was thought to be a large cockroach. I emailed Jay Brunner at the Department of Entomology at the Tree Fruit Research and Extension Center on Western Avenue in Wenatchee and received this reply,

“This is most likely a longhorned beetle that we see out often this time of year. They are about 2-3 inches in length and light brown. The larvae are wood boring and adults are harmless. This is not a cockroach as they do not do well in our very dry environment.”

I confirmed the bug with photos of the longhorned beetle found on the Internet. I would like to thank Jay Brunner for his help. The beetle was let free near a large group of trees.
