Gate of Heaven Cemetery

Also referred to as the Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery

Located just past the Waterville Cemetery is the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. There is a large field separating the two cemeteries.

St. Joseph's Parish was founded in 1906 in Waterville. Cemetery burials date back to 1905. The Catholic Diocese and Parish transferred ownership of the cemetery to Douglas County Cemetery District 2 who now maintains the cemetery. St. Joseph's Catholic Church still controls the burials.

There is a small sign with information, including a listing of those buried, posted at the entrance to the cemetery. The first part reads,

Welcome to the Waterville Cemetery.

From State Highway 2 in Waterville turn onto S Chelan Ave. Head past the school and park. You will see the Waterville Cemetery on the left side of the road. Continue past the Waterville Cemetery along the same road. There will be a small unmarked dirt road to the left about a quarter mile past the Waterville Cemetery.

The dirt road is below a large water tower on a hill. The dirt road has deep ruts and is in poor shape. Continue straight down the road to the cemetery.
