Before this year Bridgeport was known as Westfield. A group of investers including Mr. J. Covert purchased the township for $60,000 and renamed it after their hometown of Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Bridgeport is incorporated. The population of the town is around 500 and the town features a bank, flour mill, saw mill, three general stores, two butcher shops, and a ferry.
Construction began on Chief Joseph Dam, one mile east of Bridgeport.
