The Columbia River enters North Central Washington at the point where Okanogan, Lincoln and Ferry Counties meet. From there the Columbia travels by the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area. Next, the counties of Grant, Okanogan and Lincoln meet. From there it is a short distance to Grand Coulee Dam. Just before the Grand Coulee Dam, the Columbia leaves behind Grant County and begins to run between Douglas and Okanogan Counties.
After leaving the Grand Coulee Dam area, the Columbia River twists and turns as it heads east between Douglas and Okanogan where it will travel through the Chief Joseph Dam before heading north, then west to Brewster. From Brewster the river will continue southwest until it reaches Pateros. From Pateros, the river heads south where it soon leaves Okanogan County when Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan Counties meet. The map points to the spot where the Columbia River leaves Okanogan County and enters Chelan County just north of Wells Dam.
